Apply for Adoption Services

CURRENT SITUATION: Recently birth parents have been requesting AA or Bi-Racial adoptve parents for their unborn child.

Building Blocks Adoption Service, Inc (BBAS). BBAS employs persons that have many years of experience with the domestic and international adoption of children. These placements include children of varying ages, ethnic backgrounds and special needs. Building Blocks Adoption Service, Inc is able to assist Ohio families seeking to adopt a child through any of the 50 states.

Requirements for adopting families: Individuals and couples must have a home study approved by their own state to be considered as a potential Adopting Family. BBAS strictly adheres to all legal criteria when accepting an Adopting Family as potential parents for a child. Thereby, BBAS does not exclude single parents or families with existing children. BBAS will perform the Home Study for Ohio families as part of its process. In addition to complying with the laws of the family’s state of residence, BBAS seeks families that are able and willing to provide a loving, nurturing environment for a child. BBAS is interested in participating in an adoptive placement that fits your family and fits the birth families wants and needs.

Interstate Placements: BBAS can also provide services related to interstate placements and adoption of children. Any time a child is placed with an Ohio family from another State, approval must be obtained through the Interstate Compact on the Placement of Children, ICPC has an office in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the US Virgin Islands. BBAS is acquainted with the Ohio requirements of the I.C.P.C. and assures that necessary documents are collected prior to the birth where possible. It is important that the search for the potential child be expanded to include other states so as to enhance the possibility of adoption..

Waiting Time: The time frame from application completion, to match, is dependent on many factors including the requirements of the adoptive family and the needs of the birth mother. The more flexible you are and the more adaptable you are to the sudden circumstances of adoption including child characteristics, medical information and age of children as well as the ability to respond financially (agency adoptions usually require the payment of substantial fees to that entity), the more likely you are to have an earlier placement. Ultimately the birth parents have the choice of the adoptive family they choose to complete an adoption plan.

BBAS Adoption offers three options for Domestic Adoption Programs

Program A: Identified Adoption, Agency Assited Adoption, Adoption of a State Waiting Child, Step Parent or Relative Adoption. BBAS will provide the necessary adoption services to assist a family in completing an adoption in the State of Ohio through the following adoption situations:

Identified Adoption: The adoptive family is in need of services where the birth parents or an agency in custody has determined that the family will be the Adoptive Family of the child.

State Waiting Child Program (Children waiting in the state foster care systems for permannet placement): The family has or will identify an adoptable child through the state foster care program. Building Blocks can assist the family in locating such a child in the state foster care program as part of the Program A services.

Relative Adoption: The family is seeking to adopt a step child or relative.

Agency Assisted: The family has already contracted with an out of state placement agency & the family is in need of all required Domestic Services to complete an adoption in the State of Ohio.

Program B: Private Newborn Adoption
BBAS willl provide the same basic services as in Program A but will also actively seek to assist the Adoptive Family in locating a placement of a child whether through a private custodial agency, an attorney or a birth mother acting independently.

Birth Parent location: Perhaps the single most difficult thing about adopting domestically today is the location of a birth mother who is considering adoption. It is more important than ever that agencies reach potential birth mothers on a large scale through networking efforts in multiple geographic areas with many agencies, facilitators, law firms and organizations.

BBAS networks with several individuals, agencies and law firms that assist us in finding birth parents interested in making an adoption plan for their child. BBAS will actively present your parent profile to various entities. BBAS will assist in marketing your profile to others to seek a birthmother that meets your needs. An adoptive placement is a joint effort between the agency and the adoptive parents. We encourage you to present your profile wherever you desire. BBAS will examine all potential placements for legal sufficiency.

BBAS works with agencies, individuals and law firms in and out of Ohio to broaden your search for birth parents who are seeking an adoption plan for her/their child. Once a family is matched with a birth family BBAS will work with the adoptive families to provide the necessary services and to complete the necessary documentation so as to comply with the laws of Ohio.

Program C: BBAS will actively market out of state adoptive families as well as families who are in the State of Ohio who are currently homestudy approved and contracted with another agency, attorney or facilitator for placement.

Adoption Home Study Services of Ohio:
For families that reside in the State of Ohio, Building Blocks Adoption is licensed to provide pre-adoption education and home study assessment services to families pursuing adoption anywhere in the United States or abroad. Building Blocks Adoption assist families with home study preparation for all types of domestic adoptions, international adoptions, step parent and/or kinship adoptions and embryo donation adoptions.

Embryo Adoption/Donation: If you are considering becoming a parent through embryo donation,
we can assist you by completing your adoption home study assessment in the State of Ohio. Many Embryo Donation Centers require recipients to complete a traditional adoptive home study. The home study provides education regarding the adoption process and the unique issues or needs that may be associated in raising an adopted child. The home study also ensures donors that the couples who are accepting their embryos will be raised by parents who have had background checks as well as good personal and social history. Building Blocks Adoption is prepared to assist recipients interested in embryo adoption/ donation with meeting the home study requirements.

Building Blocks Adoption provides adoption matching assistance and services for families residing in the State of Ohio. Families may choose a child outside the State of Ohio. This is referred to as interstate adoption. Interstate adoption is the adoption of a child born or residing in a state other than the one in which the adoptive parents reside. For interstate adoptions, an extra level of documentation is required as the receiving and sending state is required to give their approval to the placement pursuant to the Interstate Compact of the Placement of Children. An additional set of paperwork is required prior to the adoption and the adoptive family is to remain in the state in which the child was born until all the necessary documentation has been processed by the sending and receiving states. Final approval can take up to four weeks or more.

Building Blocks currently has several licensed adoption social worker assessors on staff to ensure a quality home study and post adoption services.
